LVL is an engineered timber product that uses multiple layers of thin wood assembled with adhesives. It is typically used for heavy duty structural purposes for the building and construction industry such as lintels, roof beams, garage and pitching beams. LVL offers several advantages over typical milled timber. Specifically made in a factory under controlled specifications, it is stronger, straighter, and more uniform. Due to its composite nature, it is much less likely than conventional timber to warp, twist, bow, or shrink. LVL is similar in appearance to plywood.
LVL beams involve thin sheets of timber laminated together to form a solid section. The process serves to minimise weaknesses in the timber thus providing higher strength.
